Pine Manor College, also known as PMC, is a private college found in Chestnut Hill in the state of Massachusetts. The school was established in 1911. The school receives an average enrollment of close to 500 students, with ¾ of them living in the main campus. PMC is known as one of the country’s most diverse liberal arts colleges.
Pine Manor College was previously named the Pine Manor Junior College. The junior college was part of the Dana Hall School in Wellesley center. Then in 1965, the college moved to a 78 acres of land in Chestnut Hill. The campus location was known as Roughwood. Most of the college’s buildings are from the original estate, being renovated to fit the needs of the school. In 1911, the women’s college was established, at a time when women were denied higher education, except in women-only colleges.
PMC features 9 available majors. These majors include visual arts, Biology, social and political systems, business administration, psychology, communications, liberal studies, English, and history and culture. When a student graduates, he or she receives the Associate of Arts, the Bachelor of Science, the Bachelor of Arts, or the Associate of Science. With each major, students have a choice of their own focus of studey. The students can choose from more than 50 choices. PMC also awards Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. Students in PMC’s MFA Program can choose writing for children or young adult, fiction, poetry, or creative nofiction.
Pine Manor College is a member of the NCAA a Division III sports. The school competes in the Great South Athletic Conference. PMC fields teams in several sports including soccer, basketball, softball, lacrosse, cross country, tennis, and volleyball. The school color is green and white and the school nickname are the Gators.
